West of Eden- A Stroll in the Cornish Alps

To the north of St Austell in Cornwall is a huge area quarried for it's china clay. The result is a moonscape, sometimes known as the Cornish Alps, with Mountains,

Lakes,

and even a funicular

While negotiating this bizarre landscape, I came across a family of 4 buzzards. Buzzards are common in the South West (there is even one, or more, in woods close to the centre of Torquay, but I have never seen a group of 4 before). The other day, I even saw (and heard) a raven, no more than a mile from Torquay Harbour.
Also in the area is the Eden Project. I have been there 3 times, twice for free (with work, ahem, and once to see the fabulous Snow Patrol). Seemed like a long bus ride from Snorzell Station, but it is a longer walk!
Anyway, after a 10 (at least!) mile walk, the beer shop at St Austell Brewery was closed when I got there. Damn!
