Bayfast 2 (Schmoozing)

Come the Big Day. All the local bigwigs gather on the quay for the launch of the ferry. After coffee and snacks and photoshoots and TV at Living Coasts, it is all aboard for the brief and speedy trip to Brixham and back. I don't think anyone was unimpressed by the smoothness and speed, even the naysayers. Funny to see the Mayor dancing with joy at being invited to the bridge (ahem, we did that the night before). There seem to be plenty of opportunities for the old-fashioned boat companies to feed off the new ferries (eg fast out, slow back, with interchangeable tickets).
Interesting to see the networking going on: pro-car councillors talking to the bus company, our council talking to Devon, private operators talking to the bus company and us and Devon. Big things may come of this, in which local businesses will prosper and develop new ways of doing things.
Only one downer: the old ferry and a trawler were obstructing the quay in Brixham, preventing the fast ferry with the movers and shakers (including the owner of the old ferry!)from landing. Family disagreement: how does the boss of the old ferry tell her relatives captaining the old ferry and the trawler to bugger off?. They just made themselves look stupid and it wont do them any favours with the harbourmaster, who saw it going on. I dont think it will happen again. Just need to mount a bofors gun on the prow of the new ferry.

Went on it again yesterday as couldnt be arsed to queue for the Dartmouth Ferry to see the Red Arrows when we got to Kingswear and saw the queues to go across (the Arrows couldnt be seen anyway due to the cloud, apparently, but we did see the typhoon). My mum nearly had kittens when it appeared.

Caught the steam train and bus to Brixham and came back on Bayfast: over 3000 passengers in 2 days!
