Andre tagged me to write a letter to myself when I was 13, which is an unkind thing to do as our upbringings seem similar in a few ways (those ways that are recognisable now)
Dear Honourable Hutton
Don't mind being at an all boy's school. You'll get your Os and As and go to uni. Dont be so shy with girls: take the opportunity when you can. Alison wasnt beyond reach, and nor were the girls in the 6th form. The Scout Band wont wear shorts forever. And dont worry when your cap keeps getting chucked out of the train window.
When you regret not wanting to visit your dad in hospital when he had Angina, do something about it and give up an evening or two. He'll live to a great age, and even though he gets cancer when he is 70, he'll pull through. As for your mum, she has a great heart and only nags for your own good.
When your dad says, on the day before your wedding day "You can change your mind, you know", think long and hard: two wonderful children (and 2 grandchildren) against 20 years of failed relationships (but it all comes out right in the end).
Stop giving in to peer pressure: Leicester City are your team and always will be.
Try to keep in touch with your friends: I only keep in touch with a few now. I wish I knew where Christopher has got to.
Lindisfarne were a cool band to be into at your age.
It is not a good idea to smoke ("Get those 10 Cambridge out of your waistband now!"), it'll just be a turn off for most people you have a relationship with (and it gets banned in pubs in 2007).
That's another thing: your son (and yes you will bring him up on your own from an early age, along with his sister. That was a brave thing you do when you tell their mother where to get off) will be very independent and focussed. You might do interrail in a few years, but the boy will be off around the world, going to places you cannot imagine. And he will nag you about it. So dont get tied down with responsibilities too soon. Seize the moment!
And when you are persuaded to let your daughter stay on at that grim secondary school in Exeter (Yes! you move to Devon), insist she moves school. She wont regret it in the long run.
Stay out of trouble but be prepared to take risks.
love
Lord Hutton
I am at a loss who to tag, so maybe I wont just yet, although Henry might be an angry victim;-)
No. It's Katie Jane, Eve, DoGGa, Jenny, Maris Piper

Excellent letter. Makes you think, doesn't it?

I suppose alot of people have wanted at somepoint in their life to go back and change things. As it's not possible this is the next best thing. Great letter LH
Lovely!
The only tagging I'm involved with is the one one my leg that I have to wear on my ankle as a result of my ASBO. The judge said it was the worst painting he had ever seen.
A good read.
That's a scary similarity about the boys school and your Dad. You seemed to have turned out ok despite all the ups and downs!!
Give in to Peer Pressure: Argyle is your team.
ANother excellent letter Hutters - I love this idea!
Thanks for the tagger, I've done it :}
