Green Laser
I have just received a green laser pen from eBay . You really can see the beam in the dark and it reflects off very distant objects. I have made a note not to zap planes coming out of the airport, just in case they call out the air force. It is not quite write your name on the Moon, but I could write my name on Portland Bill from where I am, across Lyme Bay

We have a little laser toy for the cats - Eric and Button aren't fooled for a minute, but Pickle goes mad for it, chasing the dot til you turn it off...then searching everywhere for it!!
