Last week I won a refurbished Dell laptop and a wifi router on ebay. Less than 200 quid the lot, which I thought was a bargain. What I didnt realise was how difficult I could make it to get the whole thing to work. Hours and hours of reinstalling BT Broadband, hours and hours of trying different combinations of equipment and wiring, several efforts by my daughter and her partner to come repair the damage eg dropping my landline broadband connection completely.
Then I had a thought, checked with my friend in IT, rang my daughter, and in 5 minutes they had reset the broadband connection and wired the wifi router in series with the BT router (instead of replacing the one with the other). And Bob's your uncle.
I haven't tried using the laptop and the PC at the same time (I'm making the most of the new laptop connection), but I expect that will come.
And now, instead of smoking myself to death in the, ahem, media suite (also known as the study), I can now spend smoke free evenings with the lovely Mellie in the lounge, trying to ignore whatever dross is on 1000 channels but Nothing On, also known as Sky.

Better late than never! Wifi that is. Now you can surf meaningless drivel (such as my blog) instead of watching Sky.
