Tonight I made what I thought was a rather lovely prawn risotto, using peas and onions from the allotment, the peas personally shelled by me, my son, my daughter and her daughter.
Unfortunately, half way through eating, Kimberly from Venezuela found a maggot. And then another.
In my experience, all Venezuelans eat meat, and maggots are meat, so I couldn't see the problem. And better finding 2 maggots than finding half a maggot or even 2 half maggots. Supper was curtailed. Thank goodness there are no more peas. I just hope I didn't eat one, as I wasn't looking.

Check the rice, I had bugs in mine a couple of years ago. If you buy it in bulk or don't use it up quickly, it can go funny. It can be in flour too!
All of the rice looks like maggots in that photograph, are you sure she wasn't mistaken? I hope you make the Beaufort Stew and they are impressed with your homemade bay seasonings and you redeem yourself as the magnificent cook that you are!
Ah Julianna, its the one that IS a maggot that counts!

I've gone right off risotto since this blog.
Henry used to make a really lovely smoked haddock one using white wine (of course!) and the zest and juice of a lemon.
I've tried to make it since but it never really turns out like he used to make it. Apart from everything else, he was a natural cook.
ha ha,, this is such a funny blog.. love it.. can't say i am too keen on eating rice at the minute
