Finance

The Sunday Times Rich List tells us there are 1000 UK residents of the UK that own £335 BILLION between them. What if the government took this money, effectively putting 1000 people on the dole? That's the equivalent of 3 Keynsham chocolate factories in redundancies. Who would actually care? The country's debts paid off, and no-one except the 1000, would feel a thing. Sounds good to me. Who can possibly say "I have worked for my billion pounds and I deserve it"? About time we had some justice and fair share of burden in this country.

Great start. What's to stop it finishing with taking everybody's money to pay for the bad decisions of the politicians?

Envy's a horrible thing, and can only be destructive. Just because you haven't got it is no reason someone else shouldn't.

It's highly unlikely to be in cash. Think of it this way: you own a house, worth £XXXX. That, and your other assets, make you worth £XXXXY. But you couldn't raise that in cash without selling all you own.

If you own a successful company (that makes you worth millions on paper) you're actually employing very many people. Scrap the company and all the employees are also on the dole, and the country's in an even worse situation.

Its not envy, but fairness, IMHO
