Thetrainline.com are great

My old mate Andy asked me up to go to the Leicester vs Coventry football in January . I didnt fancy it then because my broken ribs were still painful, but I said I would go to the return leg at Coventry. Which is now coming up.
So last weekend I looked for a train ticket on thetrainline.com . They had one for £50 plus £2 for something or other which, while not cheap, was the best I was going to get. So I tried to book it. until the penultimate screen which locked (despite the "click here in 10 seconds" link). And again. And again. (I am betting on the internet cable in the Mediterranean which is damaged, messing up comms with call centres in the far east).
So I went back and clicked on the link for other train companies, several times, and none of the relevant ones had the ticket. So I clicked on an Irrelevant one, namely National Express East Coast (who serve neither Devon, nor Coventry), and lo and behold they had the ticket, for a pound less, which I duly purchased.
In the meantime, of course, thetrainline.com was busy processing my initial request (which I hadnt confirmed, and for which I received no confirmatory e-mither).
So in the next couple of days I received two tickets for the same journey. Numerous emails and phone calls to thetrainline brought no joy, as the ticket didnt qualify for a refund, until a helpful adviser told me to send the tickets with a letter in explanation in the post to Edinburgh. Which I did.
The lovely people in Edinburgh have now emailed me with a full refund to be credited to my account. lalalala. Well done customer service.
In other news, being Valentines night, I made supper (as usual) (I wanted to do oysters, but common sense and a sharp poke in the ribs told me this was not a good idea) and was praised for the quality of my home made egg and chips, which, added to the praise for helpfully doing the shopping last weekend ("You're perfect!") (whilst in agonies of over-exertion at the allotment), and having painted and secondcoated the bathroom floor in an approved colour (although chosen by me), and helped move all the furniture into M's House for Sale , gives me lots and lots of Brownie points to use up in bad behaviour at a future time (although in my experience, if a woman wants to leave me, she will, whether I have Brownie Points or not. Never expect being Good Around the House to keep a woman loyal. I tread mud in on purpose, just to take the edge off my domestic perfection)

Top tip - check out every operator's website for tickets before committing (even if they don't run in your area) - you could be very surprised about what you can find.
No wonder rail travel is overly complicated.

Hi,it's nice to hear that you've got refund from thetrainline. I just found that they charged me twice for one route, which is quite a fortune for me coz I made the reservation for both me and my friend. After reading others' review on getting refund from thetrainline,I am so nervous now. It's really bad luck...I'd apprieciate any advice on how to get the refund. How long did it take for you to receive the refund after you sent back the tickets? And how did you compose your explanation? Please give me a hint, and my email address is susie0043@gmail.com

Thank you very much!!!
