Svalbard

Longyearbyen is the most northerly settlement in the world at 78 degrees and 13 minutes. However there are restaurants and shops and even a University and a satellite station. In March, the best temperature is -20C. If you go up, it gets colder. There are no trees, just coalmining
and tourism. Not even any boats, as the sea and fjord are frozen. If you you walk out of town, you are well advised to carry a gun, as the polar bears show no mercy to stray travellers. Frostbite can be a problem, as happened to me. Snow scooters are the main means of transport. Tourist trips go up the glaciers.

It is efffin cold.

You can go beneath a glacier

The sunsets are bright red as the sun rises and sets so low.
