At Oslo Gardemoen Airport, in the winter Deicing of aircraft wings is carried out by cold lonely people who sit in glass boxes on top of a sort of truck. They wait on the taxiway, and spray the wings of each aircaft with prehensile nozzles as they wait to take off. Even in the cold and dark. They also have fleets of snow clearers and deicers to keep the runway clear. Eat your heart out, Heathrow.
Which reminds me, on disembarking at Heathrow, you get round to Immigration, and the so-called UK Border Agency have 4 staff on, dealing with about 1000 people waiting to get in through the EU passport section (yet they have about 60 gates available in T3). As for the poor bastards in the Non-EU bit, there were about 2000 of them with equally few staff. Massive lack of disrespect to the weary traveller. I have known people from the UKBA and they have huge contempt for all airline passengers especially forreners (My friend N exempt). A national disgrace. Heathrow is a congested tip of a building site.
