If you get a stone in your shoe, it always ends up at the toe.

We attempted the walk from Treen (no little green men)
(but these little fellows were nesting in the washing up shelter)to Lands End via Portcurno, Porthgwarra and Nanjizel. I made it 4 miles on the map, but it was a good 6, and we didnt even make Lands End, due to navigational difficulties (ie I got the wrong path after Nanjizel, which has lost it's beach after last winter). We got beckoned into the coastguard station for a chat (it was mutual opinion that the old boy hadn't talked to a woman for 50 years).
He forecast a force 8 in the next few hours (which duly came to pass). We ended up in a pub somewhere quite near to the end of the land, where all the good old boys knew someone we knew, even down to being ex landlord of a pub near to us in Devon, and being father in law to a local solicitor who had just done our friends housemove. Other locals have passed on, or moved away. None of them were actually from Cornwall, needlesstosay, even though all were local residents. One lad did the woodburner, which after about 2 hours dried us out, another was living 300 yards from our camp site. All the time sat in the smoker's shelter out the back in the pouring rain. Been a long time since I was passed a joint in a pub.
Taxi back to the campsite was cheaper than the twice a day bus, and just in time to peg the tents down in the driving rain before they took off. Friends tent had a central pole which became seriously bent in the wind. Pegging the tents back down got me as soaked as before so I didnt bother to change as the walk to the pub would have meant using up my last dry clothes, so squelch squelch. Boots full of water, spare shoes full of water as the tent was about to take off without them.
Mercifully calm on Sunday.

When you're so wet you can't get any wetter it becomes almost enjoyable. Almost.
