High Tide
It was a particularly high tide tonight. We felt we ought to witness it at the pub as we are not at work tomorrow. The forren tourists were quite impressed, while the locals used the tables as a walkway. While we were sitting at the last table, the tide, ever so gently, receded, it was quite perceptible, as small pools suddenly drained.
That is so (please forgive) cool!! At Bosham the carpark for the pub is tidal and I've watched cars go under, almost lost my dad's, once back in the day, but seeing that huge boat looming over the jetty is a great shot! The picnic tables in the water is a bit like a photo in this months National Geographic article about Venice!!
Just to add to what Silver Horde said, the pub in Bosham (The Anchor Bleu) has a (sadly only semi- functioning) submarine door leading onto it's patio...
The houses in the lower part of the village all have raised door sills (up to a foot or so off the ground - looks really weird) and often lead flashings up to ground floor window height...some people can allegedly reach out of their windows when the tide's in and touch the sea!
At normal high tide the lower few yards of the high street, plus a coastal path, plus road access to the quay area, are all underwater ... and the waves lap around the steps of the local cafe...
At flood tide, quite a lot of streets, gardens etc can flood...there is a high tide mark in the servery of the Anchor Bleu to show just how high this can be!
Lots of folk have lost their cars (or more) here...as King Canute could possibly testify...
