Mousehole

"I've been coming here for nearly 30 years" I mused to M on the way down. "Must be nearly forty for me" she responded, "in the days when kids stayed in the car with crisps and orange squash, while their parents sneaked a pint of Watneys Red Barrel and a glass of Mateus Rose".I went for a stroll around Newlyn, while M did the galleries.M's Aunt and Uncle have rented a cottage for a week, and we were privileged to be asked to spend the evening with them in Mousehole (it's 120 miles but only in the next county). I have stayed in a cottage in this shot several times, the smoke from the fireplaces wafting over the village. I'd never seen this there before, but Boule seems to be the in thing for the incoming middle classIn the evening we had the best fish and chips ever and I was allowed to go to the pub to read the paper while M and Aunty watched the telly and Uncle dozed. This morning, while M went to the shop, I was cornered by M's aunt, who needed to offload that I had accidentally hurt one of her grand children two years ago (a scratch, while teasing), and that she couldnt face coming to ours again before she had got it off her chest. She made me very tearful. I apologised (I barely remembered) and felt quite shocked (it was very intense). Why bring it up now, after all this time? When Aunty told M, M was shocked too, but in a way that was "Why is she bringing this up now?". I was so proud of M because she came straight up to me (cowering in the bedroom) and was with me 100%. That is so reassuring: togetherness in the face of adversity (now all loved-up). Mad aunty (but the only one she has).Later was the ritual trip to Logan Rock, where M's Mum, Carol, used to sit, and where her ashes were thrown to the winds.Spring is well on it's way hereAnd then Aunt and Uncle bought us lunch at the pub in Paul, which was really great. On the way back, we stopped to see what the crowds of people were doing. They were waiting for this:A "Black 5" doing the Cornish branch lines
