46 Million Credit Cards
My employer, a Council responsible for 6500 staff, located somewhere near the English Riviera, was recently notified by the Audit Commission that anti-benefit fraud data (ie bank details) had not been received by the Audit Commission, implying that these details had been "mislaid" in the post. My chum in IT suggests that the CD containing the info, had never actually been burnt, as they could trace nothing on any likely PC. Conversely, the Audit Commission have suggested they know when the CD WAS burnt. If they know that, then surely it was them that lost the CD, even if we dont think we actually made it. Anyway, bye bye to Internet banking for me for a while (covers back). Why my employer is required to send personal banking details to a central government authority, without specific permission from individuals, smacks of the nanny state, and bodes ill for any national ID database, if it can go missing that easily.
In the meantime, TK Maxx have lost to hackers 46 million credit card records. I hope they get screwed and pay their customers millions in compensation (which might include me).*checks cash hidden in the teapot on the mantelpiece
