Management Stuff

I'll know tomorrow who passed the interview for my manager's job. It won't be me, even though G and I have been sharing the job for 8 months. I know the director wants new blood and cant afford to have to advertise my post. Nonetheless, I have learnt some stuff:
*Know what you are talking about, and if you dont know, bluff, or make an educated guess, or say you dont know but will find out.
*Have something to say.
*A new one one to me, but I noticed it twice (just happened to be from successful women consultants) today: stare hard at the other people in the meeting, or in a one to one situation. It makes the other party uncomfortable, and more likely to come up with an acceptable answer.
*Repeat what you have read, or what has already been discussed, even though everybody already knows it.
*Network, so you can promise to contact those whose opinions count.
*Take tasks from the meeting, making sure the others know.
*There are opportunities to feign stupidity, in order to make another party clarify what they are saying.
*If an answer is "no", question it.
It isnt rocket science (which is easy: get a big tube, point it downwind, fill it with nasty stuff, set fire to it). My turn is another time. In the meantime, I wish to be a lockkeeper, or a country station master, if there was such a thing these days.
