Bad Car Day

The sea was up yesterday, high tide, east wind. As we were taking the Peruvian Taxi
to work, I decided it would be fun to watch the waves in Shaldon and watch the ship go out BBC News Story
There were a few waves coming, in a seemingly mild way. Then I drove on up the beach level single track lane towards the Ness. Suddenly a HUNDRED MILLION GALLONS of water came over the wall and landed on the car, stopping the engine. Steam and wet. Actually quite scary: what would the next one do, should we stay put or get out? I decided to risk it and push us back and fortunately a man from interserve was coming to work from the hotel and helped us push the car back 100 yards to safety, where the waves in the river mouth were less.
We had to walk back 2 miles home to get the MG and drive to work rather late. I asked the garage to rescue it, which they did (ie it dried out) for 30 squid. M only later owned up to gallons of water coming through the badly closed sun roof that went straight down her neck. Never screamed once, Brave soul, I only got punched once. Oh, and called stupid.

Later, it was Pie Night in Woodland, a remote pub in a remote village where workfolk go for a monthly meet to josh and network and eat pie. My lift didnt appear so M offered me a lift in the MG. My useless directions took us up a lane where a huge pothole grounded the MG. Four Effings in one sentence, while trying to turn in the dark in a Devon lane was impressive for a person sworn not to swear. I had to get my hat and gloves and kit together in case she couldnt be arsed to actually stop to drop me at the pub, and I had to parachute out. A fine time was had by all.

I once had a wave wash over my mini, no sunroof, no problem starting it afterwards. Make sure the car is washed properly as salt is no friend!
