Round Trip

We took the train up to Exeter on Sunday, collecting our friends June and Matt on the way. The train goes around Exeter and then heads down the other side of the Exe Estuary, where we disembarked at Topsham, the quaint old port village. Pub no.1: The Lighter while waiting for the ferry to The Turf Hotel.

I ws pleased with myself for spotting an Arts and Crafts style house (I WILL get to be an expert on architecture)

Being an estuary, and with the tide going out, there was a fair amount of mud

Pub no.2 The Turf Hotel, unreachable by car, just on foot or by ferry from Topsham or from the Double Locks pub up the canal to Exeter where our friends Ali and Juan joined us. Ali is about 20 months pregnant and hoping for young Isabella to drop at any moment. Ali's tipple of choice is a half pint of Guinness Shandy, a drink designed to annoy barmen the country over (how long does it take to pour?)

Ali and Juan went back for their car while we walked along the estuary wall towards Starcross

Pub no.3 being the Anchor at Cockwood,

which if you like Mussels and beer could convert you into being a Belgian. Outside the pub was a little wooden 2 seater boat. Luckily, I had forgotten my phone, because otherwise I may now have been a proud boatowner, with nowhere to keep my boat

I loved that little boat, and I may have to go back for another look. Fortunately commonsense prevailed and we all went home. Eventually. After more beer at June and Matt's. And after me having a strop because I wanted to go home for a snooze.
All in all, not very good training for M's Race for Life next weekend, as ferries and cars seemed to intervene between ports of call. She doesnt seem fussed though. Her training comes through decorating the kitchen and moving furniture (*looks on admiringly;-)

Great photos, as always :)
So, Mel is going to run a 5K! Wow, I wish I could do that. I hope she is going to raise a lot of money. Good luck to her :)

Pubs figure prominently in your leisure activities, don't they? How strange...

Good luck to Mel, anyway we can support her? Hehe lois is right, you're always at pubs. Guiness is slow to pour whatever is mixed with it, AND you can draw pictures in the top.

Haven't been to the Turf in ages. It's a lovely dog walk along the estuary, only Hoot always tries to get in the river (or mud, depending on the tide) which can make it a nervewracking trek. Hmm... should do it again soon though.
