"A TRAWLER escaped with minor damage after a collision with a tanker in Lyme Bay yesterday.
Crew members on board the small fishing vessel were also unhurt in the drama which happened at 5pm.
It is understood the boat, believed to be a 38ft to 40ft long vessel, operates from Brixham but is owned by a Teignmouth man.
Coastguards were busy dealing with the incident last night.
But an official confirmed there had been a collision between a trawler and a tanker which was at anchor.
The official said no other agencies were involved in the incident and both vessels did not need assistance.
He added there were no injuries.
The Torbay lifeboat was not needed.
The coastguards said the trawler suffered a small dent in the collision. The damage to the tanker was described by coastguards as 'superficial'.
It is believed the fishing vessel was able to return to Brixham within less than an hour of the incident where it is believed it landed its catch.
The trawler owner will be reporting the incident to the harbour authority.
The tanker remained at anchor.
It is one of several tankers anchored in Lyme Bay at the moment awaiting orders."
There are at least a dozen tankers parked out there. And what was going on? Broad daylight, one of the vessels large and stationary. Me thinks the trawler crew had had a few and were dozing in the sunshine. And "drama" seems like quite a strong word. Reminds of the first headline I saw when I moved down here a few years ago: "Fireman in Pig Slurry Horror!"

last time that happended a fishing crew were watching the cup final and hit a tanker broadside. Result: trawler sized hole said tanker. You couldn't make it up.
Intriguing headline! I can imagine the smell but what caused the horror?
How about the headline "Man in hat sensation" or "earth in orbit or sun shocker"
