We picked up a copy of "Grass Roots 4" today, a constituency publication by Torbay BNP. Oh joy. It makes several allegations (uncredited) about the standards of British elections, makes references to several equalities bodies (oh how extreme and thuggish they are! eg the Devon Racial Equalities Council "a quango funded by the taxpayer" or a registered charity? Who can tell? The DREC are a "cabal of thugs" "reknowned for their violent actions" guffaw guffaw), shows a photo of a BNP person (no shirt, being confronted by a policeman, not a thug then), whines about the 3 main parties (that's where their strength lies: in appealing to popular disillusionment with the present tired lot). And to be honest, well. you decide. I despair.
Then some comments about muslims, without saying muslims, except all muslims seem to be interested in bombs, mobile phones, Jihad etc by implication; some weird bible stuff about trees. Oh, and further uncredited quotations, possibly Rousseau, but maybe not. Anything is OK out of context and without quotes.
A publication aimed at the ignorant, which could be all too effective, like Nazis in the 1930s. I dont like what the present government are doing eg ID cards (but the BNP dont have any arguments against ID cards, they just pick it up as an antiestablishment undercurrent. They would really love ID cards), doubt whether the Tories would do any better and can see that minority parties might do better at the next election, but for god's sake not this one.
M felt sick at reading it, and my son picked it up and rang the police to complain. That surprised me. Good boy.
I hope we arent ever forced into choosing between nazi thugs and other thugs cos I dont vote thug
