finishing off with some high speed arsing about on the Severn, before returning to Portishead. Not cheap but bloody magic. The Mabel Alice was the successor to the Solomon Browne, which tragically sunk in 1981, the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster. All of us are regular visitors to Newlyn and Mousehole, so it was a real treat.

Mabel Alice
My brother out-out-law, Rob and his partner Sharon have a work-in-progress boat

on the Gloucester and Sharpness canal. Through boating contacts, for brother, and sister-out-laws birthdays, they managed to hire the former Penlee lifeboat, the "Mabel Alice"

for a four hour cruise of the Rivers Severn and Avon, passing under the new Severn Bridge (which I visited about 15 years ago before it was finished, and there were scary gaps in the structure)

the old bridge
the Avonmouth Viaduct(M5)
and Brunel's wonderful Clifton Suspension Bridge
finishing off with some high speed arsing about on the Severn, before returning to Portishead. Not cheap but bloody magic. The Mabel Alice was the successor to the Solomon Browne, which tragically sunk in 1981, the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster. All of us are regular visitors to Newlyn and Mousehole, so it was a real treat.

Hey, I know that lat bridge: son Mike used to live within spitting distance from it last year (and isn't THAT much further away from it this year.
It's an amazing piece if engineering, and must be seen close up to appreciate it!
