......is all it took to get my mother onto Facebook so she can talk to her Grandson in South America (who only seems to *communicate via Facebook)
"Is that right click or left click?"
"What is a scrollbar?"
"I haven't got one of those"
"Where is "enter"?"
"Shift key?"
"How do I highlight that?"
"Is that right click or left click?" Again
Eventually it worked, confirmed the email (not by clicking on the link, because that wouldn't work, oh no, we had to cut and paste that), and saved the icon to her desktop
80 minutes of gently leading her through it on the telephone. She is starting a computer course next week (free for pensioners). She has been excused the first 2 hours because she can turn the bastard on and send emithers. In the end, she seemed quite pleased. And she missed Lark Rise to Candleford for it. Mum is annoyingly far away, but if she was any closer she would probably boss me into not being on the computer so much.
Sometimes, I am bloody good.
*(he has zero money, no cash card (as he didnt tell them he was going abroad: I have posted the replacement but that was 7 weeks ago) and limited internet access, but he is working and has got his Christmas present at last: $150 dollars cash courtesy of Ipostel, only took 6 weeks). Oh and a rather lovely girlfriend

Well done! She can catch Lark Rise (brilliant, by the way) on BBC iPlayer, can't she? She sounds perfectly competent to me. I'd be a silver surfer if I had any hair.
Must run in the family. I remember an unofficial service desk phonecall lasting a similar amount of time which didn't have a successful outcome, followed by a text admitting to Ludditeness. ;-)
